Mechanical Engineer Product Development

Our client, working in construction technology, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in Product Development. Reporting to the Director of Engineering and working with a cross-functional team, you will participate in concept through prototyping, test and production, ensuring designs are robust and manufacturable.

  • Own the full lifecycle of mechanical design, from concept to detailed drawings;
  • Develop high-precision mechanisms, optomechanical assemblies and enclosures;
  • Work with optics, hardware, and firmware teams to ensure alignment and integration with optics, electronics, and embedded systems;
  • Rapidly prototype mechanical concepts, using 3D printing, machining or other techniques;
  • Lead testing and validation of designs under real-world conditions;
  • Implement iterative improvements based on field and user feedback;
  • Work closely with suppliers, contract manufacturers, and internal teams;
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, BOMs, and assembly instructions;
  • Promote DFM and DFA best practices;
  • Collaborate with compliance teams to meet regulatory and safety standards.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's in Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronics or similar);
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on precision systems, optomechanical devices, robotics, etc.;
  • Excellent knowledge of DFM and DFA, very complex tolerances, and a clear understanding of GD&T;
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, machining and 3D printing;
  • Experience bringing hardware products from concept through to commercial manufacturing;
  • Strong CAD skills (SolidWorks or similar) and experience with mechanical simulations (FEA, thermal, tolerance analysis);
  • Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and supply chain;
  • Bilingual.
Location: Park Extension/Montreal
Salary: $95K to $115K depending on experience + fringe benefits
